TEXTure: Reflections of the Inner Surface
figurative works by Aimi Dunn
My new series of richly textured figurative acrylics are inspired by my metamorphosis into wife and mother. Through these evocative portraits I embrace cultural tradition while breaking it and making it my own.
Employing many antique domestic items as painting surfaces, loaded images such as aprons and dishtowels help to tell my story. Some have textures rich with vintage laces and layers of paint applied with an icing bag. Partial text reveals enough of the narrative to spark curiosity, yet leaves the rest to the viewer’s own imagination.
I fit painting in between parenting my two young children, managing my household, and running my own business. These paintings reflect my need for private moments of introspection.
